information about the abundance of history of the Lee
County, Illinois area and about the society itself. The
historical society is located in Dixon which is also the
county seat.
Lee County is located in the northern part of Illinois
about 100 miles west of Chicago. The area is full of
historical happenings, important people and events. From
Abraham Lincoln's only active military duty to the founding
of John Deere, from Orson Welles to Charles Walgreen and
Ronald Reagan, Lee County has many historical tales to tell.
This web-site will attempt to recount the countless
historical stories of this area, from the histories of the
founding of the towns and villages of Lee County to stories
about the life and times during the early days of pioneer
settlement.
The Lee County Historical Society is proud of our rich
local heritage and strive to educate others on the wonderful
past of this area. This web-site will help us in our quest.
